Bringing Natural Daylight into the UC-Denver Anschutz Health and Wellness Center with a Translucent Skylight Installation
The University of Colorado and the Anschutz Foundation collectively invested $34 million to create a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art facility that opened in April 2012.
This 94,000 square foot building is the only one of its kind in the world where science, clinical services, education and community based research come together under one roof to create the springboard for new thinking in the field of health and wellness.
Along with that forward thinking process it was determined during the design phase that the appropriate natural daylighting would be provided by a translucent skylight installation. And, it became obvious to both parties after research, fiberglass skylights did not hold up well to the elements. In addition, the yellow light transmitted by aged and discolored fiberglass skylights was an undesired effect. The research also showed that an engineered translucent skylight installation was necessary. The obvious choice was CPI Daylighting located outside of Chicago, IL.

What We Did:
- By using pre-assembled Quadwall panels from CPI Daylighting the installation was as quick in the field as possible.
Product Used:
- (1) CPI Daylighting 11.57′ x 109′ single sloped Quadwall polycarbonate, translucent skylight.
Results:
CPI Daylighting’s advanced translucent glazing technology ensured that the building envelope was covered by an insulated translucent skylight installation that:
- Provides unequaled durability and daylighting performance.
- Supplies all the daylight desired without glare.
- Avoids unwanted solar heat gain.
